Our iconic venue The Garage is turning 30!
As we celebrate this milestone with 2 sold out shows from Mogwai, NME caught up with the band as well as our team on why “it’s the perfect room for gigs”, and with Mogwai being the band to have played at the venue more than anyone else, they were the perfect band to help the venue mark its historic anniversary. Frontman Stuart Braithwaite said: “The Garage has played an important role in our lives, we went from no one knowing who we were to being able to fill it. We were lucky enough to play some of our early headline shows upstairs there.”
Having delved into the Garage’s rich history, venue programmers Conrad Rogan & Scott Kennedy said: “We were especially keen to get Mogwai down. They’ve played this venue more than anyone else, whether as support act or headlining. They had to be the band for our 30th. They love the venue so much. We wanted to approach bands that had real history here. We hit up some huge artists and the feedback from all of them was, ‘We loved playing there, it was really memorable, it’s really special’ – they all replied and thanked us, rather ignored us!”
