Based purely on an open vote by the public to see what venues are doing it right in their eyes, this year was the biggest by far attracting over 20,000 votes across the UK. Oslo was voted as the Best all round venue in Hackney by users of DesignMyNight, which now attracts over 3.5 million monthly views.
DesignMyNight said: “Fronting delicious food, awesome drinks and one helluva music roster, Oslo stormed onto the London scene last year and has since solidified itself as one of East London’s most prominent party hubs. Always managing to draw in music lovers, foodies and hipsters in one fell swoop, this new Hackney music venue has already proven itself a hit.”
Luke Sillett, Design My Night UK editor, in his review of the venue, said: “Oslo has won a fair few accolades in its short time on the nightlife scene, but it’s easy to see why. They don’t cut corners and they don’t shy away from the multi-experience tag. I felt like I was at two separate venues from eating to the clubbing part of the night; which I’m sure is just the vibe they have intended to create.”
Oslo brings some excellent live music to East London, with a license until 2am midweek and 3am at weekends, and a restaurant bar serving locally sourced food and craft beers all day. Originally built by North London Railway Company, as a railway station in 1870, the two storey building was later used as a ticket office during World War II. It is the only surviving part of the original station which was closed in the 1970s.
The DesignMyNight awards results show a particular trend to venues that go that extra mile to please their punters, whether it be in the entertainment on offer or quirky cocktails.
