Organised by community project NUSIC, The Future Sound of Nottingham (FSN) will give one lucky act the opportunity to perform the opening slot on the main stage at Splendour Festival on Saturday 18th July. Open to entrants now, the first round of the contest invites local bands and artists to send in tracks for judging by an expert panel, and you can enter today by clicking here.
Last year’s Splendour proudly boasted an impressive line-up of home-grown talent including Bramcote born artist Saint Raymond aka Callum Burrows. With a sell-out UK tour already under his belt, he was joined by 2014’s FSN winner, Joy Mumford, who has since been writing with respected artists such as Scorzayzee and indie pop band D.I.D, who we have had the pleasure of managing for several years now. We are delighted to reveal that Joy will also be making her second Splendour appearance on the Acoustic Rooms Stage this year for what will be the first time a FSN artist has been asked to return at the summer event.
Mark Del, of NUSIC, says: “It’s a great buzz giving Nottingham musicians the chance to play the main stage at Splendour. Future Sound of Nottingham is all about giving local artists the opportunity to play big stages to huge audiences and showcasing their music to industry professionals – last year’s finalists Field Studies were signed to Denizen Management after Denizen boss, Spencer Wells, saw them play.”
Entries for the first round will close on Monday 20th April and finalists will be expected to battle it out on the main stage at our Rock City venue on Sunday 14th June where the public and an independent panel of judges will decide the winner.
Our Chairman George Akins added: “Splendour is a great showcase for local artists so it’s a real opportunity for a new star to emerge from this year’s Future Sound of Nottingham. Jake Bugg originally played Splendour’s small courtyard stage but went on to be the main stage headliner a couple of years later, touring the world and selling albums by the million. Amber Run and Joy Mumford are playing this year while Indiana, Saint Raymond and D.I.D (Dog is Dead) have all played Splendour in recent years and gone on to greater success.”
Splendour 2015 will be headlined by two-tone legends The Specials who will be joined on the bill by James, Jess Glynne, Lawson, Roots Manuva, Amber Run, To Kill A King and the day will be opened by the winner of the Future Sound of Nottingham. Meanwhile, over on the Confetti Stage there will be performances by Bananarama, The Twang, Ferocious Dog, Iris Gold, Keto, The Swiines and Georgie while Joy Mumford, Eyre Llew, Hhymn, Jamie Lawson, Molly and Jack, RJMARKS, Daudi Matsiko and Cedric Peters make up the offer for the Acoustic Rooms Stage.
Cheeky-chappie Brummie Andy Robinson will be hosting some great acts throughout the day on the Funhouse Comedy Stage while there is plenty of entertainment for children including fairground rides, and a free kids area hosted by Big Top Mania, featuring circus skills workshops and shows, crazy inflatable’s, giant bubbles and Big Bear’s Big Balloon Disco.
